German Professor Dirk Dressler will receive the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa at the Medical University – Sofia

At the suggestion of Acad. Ivan Milanov, after coordination with the Faculty of Medicine and approval by the Academic Council, the Rector of the Medical University – Sofia, Prof. Dr. Victor Zlatkov will award the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa” to Prof. Dr. med. Dirk Dressler.

The solemn ceremony will take place on July 9 at 12:30 pm in the auditorium “Prof. Gancho Ganev” at the Hospital for neurology and psychiatry “St. Naum”.

Prof. Dirk Dressler is Head of Movement Disorder Section, Department of Neurology, Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany.

He specializes in the Clinic of Neurology at New York University and the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London, England.

He is an honorary professor at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile , a visiting professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the University of Monterey, Mexico, and Tongji , Shanghai.

He is co-founder of the International Association of Neurotoxins, Dover, USA, IAB-Interdisciplinary Working Group for Movement Disorders, International Congress on Treatment of Dystonia, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Health Network and Focus Spastic/German Forum for Spasticity.

His honorary title is awarded for his multifaceted professional and academic performances as one of the leading specialists in the field of neurology not only in Europe but also in the world. For significant scientific production: authorship of over 700 scientific publications, 22 monographs, 57 textbooks, creation of several patents for therapeutic use of botulinum toxin, over 8600 citations and H-index-50. For the preparation of textbooks in the field of neurology, which are actively used for the training of neurologists and his personal contribution related to lectures and courses in Bulgaria and training of Bulgarian neurologists in Hanover.
