University Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases "St. Sofia"

Established in 1938 as an institute for tuberculosis, later evolved into a multidisciplinary hospital with 5 clinics (3 therapeutic of which 2 for adults and one paediatric, one intensive care and one thoracic surgery) totalling 212 beds. Since 1990 is part of Sofia's Medical University, with 2 professors, 11 Associate professors and 36 assistant professors as staff. The hospital has elaborate out-patient, PFT, microbiology, clinical laboratory X-ray and bronchology departments, encompassing all types of contemporary diagnostic procedures. The Hospital serves as a national referral service for pulmonary diseases in Bulgaria.
